2時間ほど海で遊んでシャワーを浴び、夕食を済ませたら小笠原海洋センターで「海亀レクチャー」。ホテルからクルマで10分くらいのところにあります。実は父島は、日本で唯一海亀の捕食が許可されているところ。年間150頭ほどが、研究と食用にされているそうです。これはこの土地の文化を守る意味もあり、そう言えば、港の繁華街のレストランなどでも「ウミガメ」の文字をよく見かけました。おいしいのかな？ 小笠原海洋センターでは、ウミガメを食用としていることやウミガメの生態、そして保護活動を行っていることなどを説明してくれました。子どもにとっては少し難しい内容もありましたが、充分楽しめると思います。
