Fantasy Adventure gives children a dream

リュック・ベッソン監督の実写とCGアニメを融合したファンタジー・アドベンチャー大作3部作の第2章『アーサーと魔王マルタザールの逆襲』。続きものとしては珍しくさらにパワーアップしてとてもいいできあがり。映画の重要な脇役である虫も効果的に使われていて、虫好きの子どもたちは大喜びできるはず。しかもこの大冒険、実は自分の家の庭での出来事。その昔、机の引き出しを開けてはタイムマシンがないか確かめていた筆者にとって、または似たような多くの子どもたち、そして昔子どもだった大人たちにとって、映画を観たあとは必ず庭をほじくり返したくなる衝動に駆られるはず。筆者だったら、必ずやっていただろうな。そしてそんな衝動や夢を沸き起こさせてくれることが、すごい！ハラハラさせてくれる大冒険とも相まって、子どもゴコロを“わしづかみ”です。

物語は、なかなかどうして、こちらの陳腐な予想をことごとくいい意味で裏切りながら進んでいきます。第1作目ではあまり出てこなかった（出てこないのには理由があります）、主人公アーサーの両親や祖父とのからみもしっかりとストーリーに組み込まれ、おそらく第3作目までを観終わると、そこには押しつけではない家族愛や自然の大切さなんかも盛り込まれていそう。第2章ということで、どうしても第3章へのつなぎ的役割の部分もありますが、それでもとても楽しめるはず。第2章の冒頭で出てきたあのおもちゃは、もしかしたら第3章の最後のあたりで第1章のアレと同じような役割をするのかな？などなど、いろんな空想、妄想も楽しめるかもしれません。アーサーが王女セレニアと再会するのに待った10回の満月。子どもにとっては気が遠くなるほど長い長い時間ですよね。3作目の公開は、子どもはもちろん、大人にとっても長く待ち遠しい時間になりそうです。その間は、いろいろな空想を巡らせながら、親子のコミュニケーションを楽しんでみてはどうでしょう？
